Dua Lipa pays compensation to Palermo residents after wedding disruptions
Pop star Dua Lipa agreed to pay about £5,000 (approximately €5,000) to residents of Palermo following protests over road closures and traffic restrictions tied to her wedding weekend with actor Callum Turner. The celebrations, held at venues such as Palazzo Valguarnera Gangi and Villa Igiea, prompted the police to block streets, close the Modern Art Gallery and force local businesses to shut early, sparking graffiti messages like “Palermo is not for rent.”
Local officials said the event brought international attention to the city, while the compensation was intended for residents whose apartments overlooked the restricted zones. The city rented the gallery space for roughly £10,000 to host part of the festivities. Police dispersed crowds that gathered near barriers, and some residents expressed disappointment at the security measures.
The payment aims to offset the inconvenience caused by the temporary limitations on mobility and access during the high‑profile celebration.
