Duane 'Keefe D' Davis convicted of Tupac Shakur murder
A Las Vegas jury has found Duane 'Keefe D' Davis guilty of first-degree murder in connection with the 1996 killing of rap icon Tupac Shakur. The verdict, reached in less than three hours, marks the first conviction in a case that has remained unsolved for nearly three decades.
Prosecutors argued that Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, orchestrated the shooting as retaliation for an altercation involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson, at the MGM Grand. While Davis was not accused of pulling the trigger, the prosecution successfully argued that he provided the firearm and directed the attack.
Much of the case relied on Davis's own public statements, including his 2019 memoir, 'Compton Street Legend,' and various media interviews. The defense contended that there was a lack of physical evidence, such as surveillance footage or phone records, directly placing Davis at the scene. Davis has announced his intention to appeal the verdict. Sentencing is expected in October 2026.
