Duane Davis sentenced to 40 years for Tupac Shakur murder
Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former Compton gang leader, has been sentenced to a minimum of 40 years in prison for his role in the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. The sentencing follows a trial where the prosecution relied heavily on Davis’s own previous statements made in interviews and a book regarding his involvement in the shooting.
While the verdict provides a conviction decades after the crime, the trial lacked certain physical evidence, such as the murder weapon or DNA linking Davis to the scene. Davis’s defense argued that his previous admissions were fabricated for fame, but the jury found his testimony credible. Davis has indicated he intends to appeal the sentence.
