Duane Davis transferred to maximum-security prison

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, the only person convicted in connection with the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur, has been transferred to High Desert State Prison. The 63-year-old was moved from a Las Vegas jail to the high-security facility following his sentencing to 40 years to life in prison.

Davis was found guilty of first-degree murder in August after prosecutors argued he helped orchestrate the drive-by shooting as retaliation for a confrontation at the MGM Grand involving his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson. Prosecutors utilized Davis’s own statements and his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend”, as evidence during the trial.

Shakur was shot on September 7, 1996, while traveling in a vehicle with music executive Suge Knight, and passed away six days later. While Davis was indicted in 2023, his legal team maintains his innocence and has stated intentions to appeal the conviction.
