Duane Davis faces trial for orchestrating Tupac Shakur's 1996 murder FAST-MOVING

Opening statements have commenced in the Las Vegas murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, a former gang leader accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis, 63, is charged with murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang.

Prosecutors allege the shooting was an act of gang retaliation following a physical altercation between Shakur and Davis’ nephew, Orlando Anderson, earlier that night. While prosecutors state Davis did not pull the trigger, they claim he planned the attack and provided the weapon. They intend to rely heavily on Davis’ own past statements, including admissions made in a 2019 memoir.

Davis has pleaded not guilty, with his defense questioning the sufficiency of evidence after nearly three decades. If convicted, Davis faces life in prison. The trial is expected to last several weeks and may include testimony from Death Row Records co-founder Marion “Suge” Knight.
