Duane Davis convicted of first-degree murder in Tupac Shakur case
A Nevada jury has found Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon for his role in the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur. The verdict follows an 11-day trial in Clark County, where jurors deliberated for nearly three hours before reaching a unanimous decision.
Prosecutors argued that Davis, a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips, orchestrated the drive-by shooting as retaliation for an assault on his nephew, Orlando Anderson, earlier that night. While Davis was not accused of personally firing the weapon, the prosecution maintained that he organized the attack and provided the firearm used in the crime.
A central component of the case was Davis’ own public statements and his 2019 memoir, ‘Compton Street Legend,’ in which he discussed his involvement. Although his defense team argued these accounts were fabricated for notoriety, the judge allowed the memoir to be used as evidence.
Davis, who has maintained his innocence, stated in court that he intends to appeal the conviction. He faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Sentencing is scheduled for October 13, 2026.
