Duane “Keffe D” Davis trial begins in Las Vegas for Tupac Shakur murder

Duane “Keffe D” Davis, 63, has been charged with murder with a deadly weapon in connection with the 1996 drive‑by shooting that killed rap icon Tupac Shakur. Prosecutors say Davis was the orchestrator and supplied the firearm used from a white Cadillac; the case also implicates gang motives. Davis pleaded not guilty and has been held in custody since late 2023.

A Nevada judge has ruled that Davis’s 2008 police interview and his 2019 memoir “Compton Street Legend” are admissible, giving prosecutors additional evidence. The trial is set to start on August 10, 2024 in Las Vegas and is expected to last about a month. A request for bail and a continuance were denied, keeping Davis behind bars while jury selection proceeds. Death Row Records co‑founder Marion “Suge” Knight is slated to testify, and the proceedings have drawn national media attention due to the case’s cultural significance.
