Audio recordings obtained from Duane “Keefe D” Davis’ prison phone calls allegedly capture him describing his role in the 1996 shooting that killed rapper Tupac Shakur. Prosecutors in Las Vegas say the tapes will be introduced as evidence when the murder trial begins on August 10, after a pre‑trial hearing scheduled for June 30. Davis, who has repeatedly denied involvement, claimed earlier confessions were made only to seek fame and fortune, and he has previously discussed the case in interviews and a memoir. His defense attorney, Michael Sanft, argues that the recordings are unreliable and that the state’s reliance on them presents a “huge problem” for proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
