The murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed rapper Tupac Shakur, is entering its final stages in Las Vegas. After nine days of testimony, both the prosecution and defense have rested their cases.

During the defense's presentation, three former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officers testified. Former officer Stan Hyt described seeing a light-colored Cadillac arrive at Suge Knight’s residence on the night of the shooting, noting he saw no weapons among the entourage. Former officer Charlie Mangrum testified regarding his role monitoring the party at the residence. Retired homicide detective Dan Long testified that he had interviewed Davis in Los Angeles and noted difficulties in verifying certain details provided by the defendant during a 2009 interview.

Prosecutors contend that Davis, a former gang leader, planned the attack to avenge a physical altercation involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson. Davis has pleaded not guilty and did not testify during the trial. Closing arguments are scheduled to begin on Monday, with a jury expected to follow with deliberations shortly thereafter. If convicted, Davis faces a sentence of life in prison.
