Duane Davis murder trial for Tupac Shakur killing heads to closing arguments FAST-MOVING
The murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis, accused of orchestrating the 1996 killing of rapper Tupac Shakur, is entering its final stages in Las Vegas. After nine days of testimony, the defense has rested its case.
During the proceedings, defense attorney Michael Sanft called former Las Vegas homicide detective Dan Long to the stand. Long testified that he was unable to independently verify several details provided by Davis during a 2009 interview, including claims regarding hospital records and a rental vehicle. The defense's strategy has focused on arguing that Davis's previous statements were mere bravado rather than factual admissions.
Prosecutors have presented recordings of Davis's public and private statements in which he suggested involvement in the drive-by shooting, which occurred near the Las Vegas Strip. Davis, 63, has pleaded not guilty. If convicted of murder with a deadly weapon with the intent to assist a criminal gang, he faces life in prison. Closing arguments are scheduled to begin on Monday, to be followed by jury deliberations.
