Duane “Keffe D” Davis on trial for orchestrating Tupac Shakur murder

The trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis in Las Vegas is examining his alleged role in orchestrating the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur. Davis, 63, faces one count of murder with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors contend the shooting was an act of revenge following a physical altercation between Shakur’s entourage and Davis’ nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, at the MGM Grand earlier that night.

Jurors have heard audio recordings from a 2008 police interview in which Davis detailed the events. In those recordings, Davis stated that he was a passenger in a white Cadillac alongside Anderson and two other men. He claimed that when the vehicle pulled alongside Shakur’s BMW, he attempted to pass his .40-caliber Glock to another passenger, Deandre “Big Dre” Smith, who refused it. Davis alleged that Anderson then took the weapon and opened fire.

Testimony has also brought up allegations regarding Sean “Diddy” Combs. Former detective Daryn Dupree testified that Davis claimed Combs attempted to fund the murder. Combs’ representatives have denied any involvement.

Defense attorney Michael Sanft has challenged the credibility of Davis’ prior statements, characterizing them as fiction or unreliable. Davis has pleaded not guilty, and his legal team argues there is no corroborating physical evidence to support the prosecution's narrative.
