Dubai Customs Seizes 460 g of Raw Gold Hidden Inside Suitcase

Dubai Customs inspectors at Dubai International Airport uncovered an attempt to smuggle 460 grams of 24‑carat raw gold. The gold had been melted and formed into thin rods that were professionally embedded within the rubber frame and inner structure of a passenger’s suitcase, making the luggage appear normal on X‑ray scans. Unusual signals on the scanner prompted a manual inspection, during which the concealed gold rods were retrieved.

The passenger, a female Asian national, said she had received the suitcase from someone in her home country and was unaware of the gold inside. Dubai Customs used the case to remind travelers that they are legally responsible for the contents of any luggage they carry, urging them not to transport bags on behalf of others. Director of Passenger Operations Khalid Ahmed highlighted the evolving sophistication of smuggling methods and praised the inspectors’ expertise and modern inspection technology for detecting the concealment.
