Dubai driving licence renewal requirements and procedures

Drivers in Dubai can renew their driving licences through several Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) channels, including the RTA website, the DubaiNow app, and RTA self-service machines located at various Customer Happiness Centres and Tasjeel Centres.

For drivers aged 21 and above, renewal can occur up to six months before expiry. UAE and GCC citizens aged 21 and above receive a 10-year licence upon renewal, while UAE residents receive a five-year licence. Drivers under 21 receive a one-year licence and may renew up to three months before expiry. Notably, the RTA calculates the new expiry date from the date the renewal application is submitted.

Requirements for renewal include a valid Emirates ID, a valid eye test from an approved centre, and payment of any outstanding fines. Professional drivers must also complete a medical fitness test at an RTA-accredited hospital.
