Dubai enhances accessibility for People of Determination
Dubai is implementing various initiatives to improve accessibility for People of Determination (POD) across its public spaces and events. The eighth edition of the AccessAbilities Expo, held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, showcased advanced mobility technologies, including robotic exoskeletons, electric wheelchairs, and assistive rehabilitation equipment.
In addition to technological advancements, Dubai Municipality has upgraded public infrastructure. Major locations such as Mushrif National Park, Zabeel Park, and Safa Park have been retrofitted with wheelchair-friendly pathways, Braille signage, and accessible restrooms. Public parks now feature inclusive seating designs, such as benches with central bays that allow wheelchair users to sit alongside companions, as well as quiet rooms for autistic visitors.
Logistical support has also been expanded, including free wheelchair rentals in public parks, accessible golf carts, and dedicated parking. To facilitate event attendance, free accessible taxi services have been provided to transport People of Determination from metro stations to major venues like the World Trade Centre.
