Dubai International Airport rolls out new security scanners

Dubai International Airport (DXB) is rolling out a new generation of security screening equipment designed to allow passengers to keep liquids and electronics, such as laptops, inside their carry-on luggage. The upgraded scanners utilize high-resolution 3D imaging to examine bag contents without requiring travelers to unpack.

Paul Griffiths, head of Dubai Airports, stated that the transition is part of a gradual, ongoing program to replace older technology with more efficient machines. The goal is to make the security process “slicker, quicker, faster, and more convenient” by eliminating the need for passengers to remove items like belts, shoes, or electronics.

The technological overhaul involves multiple suppliers: Smiths Detection is providing the checkpoint screening machines, while EmaratTech is managing the immigration systems. The upgrades are being implemented across the airport's terminals, including Terminal 1 and Concourse B, as part of a broader refurbishment and continuous upgrade program.
