Dubai launches soft‑mobility network and Etihad Rail station
Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has approved a five‑year soft‑mobility plan that will run through 2030. The program will add walking paths, cycling tracks, e‑scooter facilities and shared‑mobility hubs around 63 public‑transport stations in 25 residential communities, aiming to improve first‑ and last‑mile connectivity, cut private‑car use and support the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan. Director‑General Mattar Al Tayer said soft mobility is a strategic pillar for an integrated transport system and a higher quality of life.
Etihad Rail will open its Dubai station at Jumeirah Golf Estates on 30 September. The new station will link the national rail network with the Dubai Metro, buses and taxis, creating a major public‑transport interchange for nearby districts such as Al Furjan, Dubai Investment Park and Expo City. A footbridge connecting the station to the Metro is under construction. Trains on the 900‑km network, which serves 11 UAE cities, can carry up to 400 passengers per trip.
