Dubai Police rescue teams free workers' hands trapped in meat grinders

Dubai Police rescue teams have intervened in several incidents where workers' hands became trapped in commercial meat grinders at restaurants and shopping centres. Using specialised precision cutting tools and engineering techniques, the teams were able to dismantle or reverse the machinery and release the limbs, averting amputations and serious complications.

Colonel Khalid Ibrahim Al Hammadi, Director of the Search and Rescue Department, said the accidents are usually caused by inattention, inadequate training or unsafe use of equipment. He warned employers to ensure proper safety training and that machines are fitted with functional protective devices, and urged parents to supervise children around moving equipment. Dubai courts have awarded substantial compensation in cases where safety measures were lacking, underscoring the legal and financial risks of workplace negligence.
