Dubai road network reaches 95% excellence rating

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) reports that approximately 95 per cent of the emirate’s road network assets are currently rated as ‘excellent’. To maintain these standards, the RTA is expanding its smart preventive maintenance programs and utilizing automated systems to prioritize repairs based on damage severity, safety risks, and traffic volumes.

Much of the infrastructure work, including repairs to asphalt, bridges, tunnels, and drainage systems, is conducted overnight to minimize motorist disruption. The RTA’s 2026 program includes the maintenance of 17 kilometres of asphalt roads and approximately 90,000 square metres of pavement.

In conjunction with infrastructure updates, the RTA highlighted a significant safety milestone, noting that Dubai schools have recorded zero traffic fatalities since 2010. As the 2026–2027 academic year begins, the authority has issued warnings to parents regarding traffic safety. Specifically, motorists are urged to avoid double parking and unsafe drop-offs, which can block visibility and disrupt traffic flow. Data shows that while 47 per cent of students travel by private vehicle, many parents remain unaware of specific rules governing school zone drop-offs.
