Dubai RTA issues 119,000 driving licences in first half of 2026
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued 119,188 driving licences during the first half of 2026. This total comprises 96,400 new licences and 22,788 replacement licences issued to holders from recognized countries who exchanged their existing credentials for UAE licences.
The RTA attributed the increased demand to population growth, rising economic activity, and Dubai’s status as a destination for investment and residency. To manage this growth, the authority is integrating smart technologies and artificial intelligence into its driver training and assessment systems.
Key technological implementations include the use of AI, cameras, and smart sensors in testing yards to provide objective assessments. Additionally, the RTA utilizes advanced driving simulators to help learners practice responding to hazardous conditions such as fog, rain, and emergency scenarios.
