Dubai RTA launches digital QR tickets for public transport
The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a digital QR ticket system for the city’s public transport network. This new option serves as a digital alternative to the traditional paper ‘red ticket’ used for single trips or one-day passes.
Commuters can purchase these tickets through the ‘nol Pay’ or ‘S’hail’ mobile applications on Apple and Android devices. Once purchased, the digital tickets are valid for 90 days before use. Fares for these tickets start from AED 6, with costs varying based on the number of zones traveled.
To use the service, passengers can scan the QR code on their smartphone at the entry gates of the Metro and tram stations or at the red readers located near bus entrances. This update is intended to provide greater convenience for visitors and occasional riders by removing the need to carry physical paper tickets.
