Dubai’s iconic Toyota Building scheduled for demolition in 2027

The Nasser Rashid Lootah Building, widely known as the Toyota Building, is scheduled for demolition in 2027. Completed in 1974, the 15-storey structure was one of the first major buildings to rise near the First Roundabout on Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai.

The building gained its popular nickname after a large, illuminated red Toyota sign was installed on its roof in 1981. Although the advertising contract expired and the sign was removed in 2018, the landmark remained a recognizable symbol of Dubai’s urban evolution.

Property management has confirmed that residents are being evicted, though those with valid rental contracts may remain until December 2026. For many long-term residents and expatriates, the building serves as a nostalgic symbol of the city’s transition from its humble beginnings to a global metropolis of skyscrapers.
