Dublin footballer Joey Chad dies at 20, clubs and community pay tribute

Joey Emmanuel Chad, a 20‑year‑old winger from Dublin, died suddenly in July 2026. He had played under‑age football for League of Ireland side Bohemians and senior football for Dublin clubs Crumlin United, Bluebell United and Old County before signing a professional contract with Swedish club Ytterhogdals IK in 2025.

Following his death, former clubs and coaches issued tributes. Bluebell United highlighted his personality, smile and influence in the dressing room, while Koju Sports, a Dublin‑Amsterdam agency, described him as “an incredible young man” whose humility and passion left a lasting impact. Joey’s agent, Christopher Akpaloo, launched a fundraiser to support his family’s funeral and memorial expenses, emphasizing the deep personal loss felt by those who knew him.

The outpouring of support across the Irish football community reflects the respect and affection earned by Chad during his brief but promising career.
