Dublin industrial fire at Ballyboughal scrapyard spreads smoke citywide

A large fire broke out at an industrial scrapyard in Wimbletown, Ballyboughal on the north side of Dublin on 6 August 2026. The blaze was visible from Dublin Airport and produced smoke that drifted across the city, prompting traffic congestion on major routes.

Dublin Fire Brigade deployed five fire engines, a foam tender and two water tankers, and received assistance from the Meath Fire Service. No injuries were reported and the fire was reported to be under control. Local councillors Cathal Boland and Eoghan Dockrell visited the scene and advised residents to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution.

Authorities urged the public to avoid the area and keep it clear for emergency responders while the incident continued to be monitored.
