Dublin: Man arrested for 2003 sexual assault and burglary

A man in his 60s has been arrested by An Garda Síochána in connection with a serious sexual assault and aggravated burglary that occurred in Kilmacud, south Dublin, in 2003.

The incident took place on March 31, 2003, when the suspect allegedly posed as a cable television technician to gain entry to a home. During the attack, the victim was bound with plastic ties and threatened with a knife while her infant was present in the house.

Following an extensive investigation involving hundreds of tasks and over 100 statements, the case remained unsolved for two decades. A breakthrough occurred following a 2023 peer review of the investigation conducted by the DMR East Serious Crime Unit. The suspect is currently being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 as the investigation continues.
