Dublin man refused bail over 2003 rape and burglary charges

A 68-year-old man has been refused bail after being charged in connection with a violent burglary and rape that occurred in south Dublin in March 2003. The accused faces charges of two counts of rape, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of aggravated burglary involving a knife.

During the Dún Laoghaire District Court hearing, Detective Inspector Trevor Scanlon of Dundrum Garda Station raised significant concerns regarding the accused. Police alleged that the individual may possess digital content depicting various violent crimes, including home break-ins, rape, and murder.

Authorities stated there is strong DNA evidence and witness testimony linking the accused to the 2003 incident. Judge Anne Watkin denied bail following objections from the prosecution regarding the risk of the accused committing similar serious offences.
