Dubrovnik archaeological workshops focus on cathedral finds
A series of student workshops was held in Dubrovnik from September 3 to 19 as part of the ‘Discovering Old Dubrovnik Cathedrals’ project. The initiative focuses on the inventory, processing, interpretation, and publication of movable archaeological finds recovered from the underground areas of the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Bunićevo polje (Pujiška plac) during investigations conducted between 1981 and 1988 following the 1979 earthquake.
Under the mentorship of various experts, students engaged in specialized tasks including the analysis of ceramic fragments, the processing of wall painting fragments, and the study of decorative stone pieces from the first two Dubrovnik cathedrals. The program also featured contributions from Dr. Miklós Kázmér, a professor emeritus from Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest and an expert in paleoseismology and paleogeography.
