Dubrovnik Libraries host events on historical figures Marin Getaldić and Ilija Crijević

Dubrovnik Libraries are hosting cultural events focused on significant historical figures from the region's past.

To mark the 400th anniversary of the death of Marin Getaldić (1568–1626), Dr. Ivica Martinović will deliver a lecture titled ‘The Family of Marin Getaldić’ on September 3, 2026. The presentation aims to explore the private life of the renowned scientist, including his family history, possessions, and inheritance, moving beyond his scientific achievements to examine his personal connections and archival traces.

Additionally, the book ‘Glas izdaleka – portret Ilije Crijevića’ by Milana Vuković Runjić was recently presented as part of the ‘Stories from Ragusine’ program. The work provides an essayistic portrait of the 15th-century humanist and poet Ilija Crijević (1463–1520), portraying him as a living individual with personal ambitions and contradictions rather than merely a historical monument.
