Croatian Parliament building renovation delayed by unforeseen construction issues
Renovation work on the historic building of the Croatian Parliament on Trg Svetog Marka, valued at about €70 million (including VAT) and awarded to contractor Ing‑grad, began in autumn 2024. The project, which follows damage from the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquakes of 2020, includes structural reinforcement, new façade treatment, a new entrance on Ulica 29. X. 1918, and a rooftop observation terrace.
The Parliament has announced that unexpected construction circumstances uncovered during the works have required additional design adjustments and technical solutions, prompting a delay. As the spokesman said, “Radi naknadno utvrđenog stanja konstrukcije … rok završetka bit će produžen, a točan rok produženja radova bit će utvrđen dodatkom Ugovora.” A new completion date will be set through a contract amendment. Earlier estimates ranged from autumn 2025 to spring 2028, meaning the return of elected representatives to the main building will be postponed. Until then, the Sabor continues its sessions in a temporary venue at the Dr. Franjo Tuđman Military Academy in Ilica.
