Pula, Dubrovnik, Rijeka and other Croatian cities launch summer film festivals
The International Tino Pattiera opera‑arias festival in Dubrovnik concluded with a concert titled “Verdi for all times” on 3 July, featuring the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Noorman Widjaja and singers Nikolina Pinko, Petra Radulović, Joanna Dobrakowska and others. The event was supported by the city of Dubrovnik, the local tourism board and the airport.
The 73rd Pula Film Festival opened its pre‑program on 9 July at the Arena, offering a retrospective for the centenary of director Nikola Tanhofer, a “Greater Adria” showcase of recent award‑winning European films, and a children’s series called “Pulica”. Parallel exhibitions include a Tanhofer tribute, a showcase of actor Žarko Laušević, and photography and contemporary‑art displays.
The nationwide “Ljeto u mreži” programme runs from 1 July to 1 Sept in 47 independent cinemas across Croatia, presenting three family‑friendly films – the animated classic Čudesna šuma (celebrating its 40th anniversary), Pixar’s Monsters Inc., and the adventure Dječak dupin 2.
In Rijeka, Art‑kino organised free open‑air screenings in the Old Town on 2 July (Billy Wilder’s The Seven Year Itch) and 8 July (Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window), with indoor backup in case of bad weather.
