Duck Paterson retires from Ladysmith council after 38 years
Duck Paterson has officially retired from municipal politics in Ladysmith after more than 38 years of service. He attended his final in-person meeting as a councillor on Sept. 8.
During his final remarks at the Committee of the Whole table, Paterson emphasized the importance of the relationship between the Town of Ladysmith and the Stz’uminus First Nation. He expressed hope that the two communities would continue to work together as partners based on mutual respect and understanding.
Paterson highlighted several community infrastructure projects completed during his tenure, including the expansion of Transfer Beach, the construction of the Transfer Beach amphitheatre, the Holland Creek Trail, and the completion of First Avenue. Mayor Deena Beeston honored his long career, referring to him as a 'steady anchor' for the town through periods of growth and change.
