Duda Salabert targeted in attempted homicide during illegal mining inspection
Brazilian Federal Deputy Duda Salabert and her advisor, Felipe Gomes, were victims of an attempted homicide while investigating illegal mining activities in Minas Gerais. The incident occurred on the border between Belo Horizonte and Nova Lima near BH Shopping.
According to reports, the pair was intercepted by three men, one of whom was armed, while they were using mobile phones to document suspicious heavy machinery operations. The attackers attempted to force them into the mining area. During the struggle, the victims were subjected to physical violence, including punches and kicks. Salabert escaped by jumping down a ravine to reach a nearby avenue to seek help, while Gomes sustained injuries from being beaten.
Salabert was hospitalized for a dislocated shoulder and other injuries but has since been discharged. The attackers reportedly stole the victims' mobile devices and issued death threats. Civil Police have opened an investigation into the attack, which Salabert linked to a criminal network involved in illegal mineral extraction and corruption in the region.
