Dudok aan het Diep wins 2026 Heritage Sustainability Award

Dudok aan het Diep in Groningen has won the 2026 Heritage Sustainability Award in the projects category. Originally a gas station designed by architect Willem Dudok, the building underwent a complete sustainability transformation over the last two years and has been repurposed as a waterfront coffee shop and kiosk.

The jury praised the project for successfully navigating the complexities of concrete and glass construction to achieve significant sustainability goals, calling the effort “exemplary.” The final winners were determined by a public vote following a selection process by heritage professionals, with nearly 6,000 votes cast.

In the separate category for initiatives that accelerate monument sustainability, the award was presented to Martijn Andela for the e-book ‘Een warme jas’ (A Warm Coat), which provides strategies and technical details for the sustainable renovation of old houses.
