Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla trial to resume in Durban

The trial of Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla is scheduled to resume at the Durban High Court on Monday, 26 October 2026. The daughter of former South African President Jacob Zuma faces charges under the Protection of Constitutional Democracy against Terrorist and Related Activities Act (POCDATARA) and incitement to commit violence.

The charges are linked to the July 2021 unrest in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal that occurred following her father’s incarceration. The State alleges that her social media activity encouraged violence during that period. Zuma-Sambudla has denied all allegations, framing the prosecution as an attempt to silence critics of the state.

The trial, which originally began in November 2025, is expected to continue through 6 November 2026. The legal proceedings are viewed by analysts as a test of how South Africa balances national security with freedom of expression under the POCDATARA Act.
