Duffer Brothers leave Netflix for Paramount film deal

The Duffer Brothers, creators of the Netflix series ‘Stranger Things’, have officially moved on from the streaming platform after a decade-long partnership. Following the conclusion of their hit series, Matt and Ross Duffer secured a four-year deal with Paramount to focus on producing large-scale theatrical movies rather than television shows.

Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos expressed understanding regarding the creators' departure during a Bloomberg Screentime event. Sarandos noted that the brothers expressed a desire to pursue film projects while they are still in their 40s, stating, ‘You guys are great at what you do, and I think you should go do that.’

During their tenure at Netflix, the Duffers produced several projects, including ‘Stranger Things’ and the horror miniseries ‘Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen’. While ‘Stranger Things’ spinoffs like the animated ‘Tales from ’85’ have continued to see releases, the creators' shift toward cinema marks a significant change in their professional trajectory.
