Dufferin OPP issues seasonal safety and security advisories
The Dufferin County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has issued several advisories to residents and motorists as the autumn season begins.
To combat potential theft and property crime, the OPP is urging residents to secure homes and seasonal properties before winter. Recommended preventative measures include installing deadbolt locks, using motion-activated lighting, employing security cameras, and using interior light timers to simulate occupancy. The agency also highlighted its CAMSafe voluntary registry for homeowners to register security camera locations.
Additionally, the OPP is reminding motorists to exercise caution during the fall harvest season. As agricultural activity increases, drivers should expect to encounter slow-moving tractors, combines, and wagons on rural roads. Authorities advise motorists to slow down, provide ample space for wide machinery, and remain patient when encountering vehicles displaying orange slow-moving signs.
