Dugo Selo: Human remains discovered in St. Martin Church ruins

A local resident discovered several bags containing human remains within the ruins of the St. Martin Church at Martin Breg, near Dugo Selo. The individual reported seeing children inside the ruins and immediately ushered them away upon discovering the bags.

Some of the bags were damaged, making the skeletal remains visible. The bags bore a specific marking: ‘MB 2018, kosti iz slojeva’ (MB 2018, bones from layers). This notation is significant as archaeological research was conducted at the site in 2018. It remains unclear whether these remains are leftovers from those excavations or if they were placed in the ruins more recently.

The witness noted that the site was unsecured and accessible to the public. Following the report, police arrived to secure the area. While authorities indicated they were aware of the situation, the witness noted that the site should have been locked and that a municipal officer failed to appear when called.
