Democratic Union for Integration demands accountability over flag display in Tetovo
The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) is demanding institutional accountability from Bilall Kasami following the 35th anniversary of North Macedonia’s independence celebrations in Tetovo. The party alleges that while the Albanian national flag was omitted from the official ceremony, the Vergina flag was instead displayed in the center of the city.
DUI claims this action is not merely a matter of protocol but a clear indication of the government's attitude toward Albanian national symbols. The party criticized the VLEN political group, stating that despite campaign promises to treat Albanian symbols equally with Macedonian ones, those promises have been neglected since they joined the government.
DUI further noted that the use of the Vergina flag is in contradiction with the Prespa Agreement as it is not an official state symbol. The party is calling on competent authorities to investigate the legal basis for this decision and to identify those responsible for authorizing the display of the Vergina flag while excluding the Albanian flag.
