DUI demands Badinter majority for education laws

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has asserted that a Badinter majority is required for any laws affecting education in North Macedonia. The party's stance comes in response to statements made by Minister of Education Vesna Janevska, whom the DUI accuses of attempting to limit the application of the Badinter mechanism.

DUI representatives stated that the Badinter principle serves as a constitutional guarantee to ensure that the ethnic Albanian majority cannot have its language, education, or identity decided upon by a simple majority. The party criticized the Minister for referring to the Badinter principle as a ‘tool’ and for describing Albanians as a ‘small community,’ calling for a public apology and the withdrawal of her statements.
