Duisburg China Festival celebrates Wuhan sister-city ties
The 2026 Duisburg China Festival has commenced in Duisburg, Germany, highlighting the long-standing sister-city relationship between Duisburg and Wuhan, which began in 1982.
The festival's opening gala featured nearly 40 artists from the Wuhan Song and Dance Theatre. The performances included Peking opera, Hanju opera, Chuju opera, acrobatics, and various ethnic songs and dances, including the piece ‘White Clouds and Yellow Crane Are My Hometown.’
Acting Consul General Chang Haitao noted that the festival serves as a way for German citizens to experience Chinese culture closely. Duisburg Mayor Soeren Link emphasized the importance of the sister-city bond and the festival's role in strengthening German-Chinese friendship through dialogue and exchange. The three-day event includes cultural booths and interactive zones showcasing traditional cuisine and contemporary art.
