Duisburg prosecutor charges teacher with fraud and forgery

The Duisburg public prosecutor's office has filed charges against a teacher from Wesel, North Rhine-Westphalia, for suspected fraud and forgery of documents. The educator, who worked at a vocational college, is accused of wrongfully receiving approximately 248,000 euros while on long-term sick leave.

According to prosecutors, the teacher has not taught since 2009 but continued to collect her salary through repeated sick leave certifications. The current indictment specifically covers the period between March 2021 and March 2025, as earlier allegations have expired under the statute of limitations.

In addition to fraud, the teacher faces forgery charges for allegedly issuing two diving medical certificates under the false name of a non-existent doctor to support her activities as a diver. A disciplinary proceeding involving the teacher and an employee of the Düsseldorf district government is currently on hold pending the outcome of this criminal case.
