Duisburger Hafen AG marks 100 years of logistics operations

Duisburger Hafen AG, operating as duisport, is marking a century of involvement in the economic development of the Ruhr region and Germany. The company has transitioned from traditional port operations to managing modern logistics networks and international terminal projects.

A key milestone in its history was the logport I project, which transformed the former Krupp steelworks site in Duisburg-Rheinhausen into a trimodal logistics center starting in 1998. This project serves as a European model for industrial structural change. Additionally, the expansion of rail connections to China has established Duisburg as a critical European hub for freight traffic between Asia and Europe.

Currently, the Duisburg Gateway Terminal (DGT) operates on the former coal island, replacing coal handling with modern container terminal services. CEO Markus Bangen noted that the company’s success is built on generations of people who shaped the port into a location of international importance. Under the motto ‘Moving the next 100’, the company aims to focus on modern infrastructure and resilient supply chains heading toward 2026.
