The Duke Blue Devils defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 31-27 in a road victory on September 12, extending their winning streak to six games. Despite falling behind by 10 points in the second quarter, Duke outscored Illinois 17-3 over the remainder of the contest.

Running back Nate Sheppard led the offense with 147 rushing yards and three total touchdowns, including two receiving scores. Quarterback Walker Eget completed 15 of 21 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns. Eget suffered an injury in the fourth quarter but returned for the final drive.

The victory marks Duke's second win of the season and their 11th one-score victory under head coach Manny Diaz.
