Duke Energy doubles utility bill assistance for Indiana residents

Duke Energy is doubling its financial assistance for Indiana residents to help manage utility costs. The company will provide $900,000 in direct shareholder funding through its Share the Light Fund and a new Summer Energy Credit program, up from $450,000 provided last year.

The increase follows a period of unseasonably warm weather; in September, Indiana recorded cooling degree days that were 70% higher than the seasonal normal. Since 2022, the Share the Light Fund has distributed over $2.8 million in assistance to more than 9,700 Indiana households.

Qualifying residents can receive an annual credit of up to $250 to cover utility bills, deposits, and connection or reconnection fees. The funds are distributed in partnership with the Indiana Community Action Association, with eligibility based on income, family size, and available resources.
