Duke football defeats William & Mary 62-7

The Duke Blue Devils defeated the William & Mary Tribe 62-7 at Wallace Wade Stadium on Saturday. The victory moves Duke to a 4-0 record, keeping the team competitive within the ACC standings.

Duke’s offense was led by Nate Sheppard, the nation’s leading rusher, who recorded 116 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Quarterbacks Walker Eget and Dan Mahan combined for five touchdown passes. Mahan, who took over for Eget, completed 6-of-7 passes for 126 yards and three touchdowns. Notably, seven different Duke players recorded their first career touchdowns during the game.

William & Mary’s lone touchdown came from running back Jack Reuter on a 6-yard pass from quarterback Winston Watkins. Despite the loss, linebacker Christopher Higgins recorded a career-high 12 tackles for the Tribe. Duke will enter a bye week before facing Georgia Tech on October 10.
