Duke Football Quarterback Competition Heats Up at Fall Camp
Duke University opened its 2026 fall football camp on August 5 in Durham, North Carolina. Head coach Manny Diaz said the starting quarterback role is still undecided as transfer Walker Egat and redshirt freshman Dan Mahan split first‑team reps and are both showing promise. Diaz emphasized that the competition will continue through camp, noting that the team needs leadership and performance from the position.
The Blue Devils enter the season after a major roster turnover. Former starter quarterback Darian Mensah transferred to Miami, and the team lost its top three receivers, several offensive linemen and key defensive backs. Despite the departures, Diaz and his staff have reloaded the roster and aim to remain competitive in the ACC. Duke’s 2026 schedule begins on September 5 with a game against Tulane.
