Dukla’s Traditional Sausage Secured EU Protected Geographical Indication

The European Commission has added the “kiełbasa pradziada z Dukli” (Grandfather’s Sausage from Dukla) to the EU register of protected geographical indications (ChOG). The designation protects the name across the entire European Union and limits its use to producers who meet the specification and operate within the municipality of Dukla in the Subcarpathian region of Poland. It is the 51st Polish product to receive such protection.

The sausage is made from pork meat and liver of the Puławska breed or its cross‑breeds, contains no more than 5 % fat, and is smoked with beech, alder and cherry wood. Minister of Agriculture Stefan Krajewski highlighted the cultural and economic value of the award for local producers. Tomasz Parzybut, president of the Polish Butchers and Meat Processors Association, said the EU label can justify higher prices, boost the product’s visibility among European consumers and support export growth of premium Polish meat products.
