Dukovany Nuclear Power Station undergoes major modernization and maintenance

The Dukovany Nuclear Power Station is undergoing significant modernization and maintenance activities. A major component of this work involves the reconstruction of six large demineralized water storage tanks. Each tank has a capacity of 1,000 cubic meters, serving as a critical resource for technological and safety systems, including residual heat removal during emergencies. The reconstruction, which began in the summer and is scheduled to continue until early 2028, utilizes a unique construction method where the 16-meter-high tanks are built from the roof downwards to minimize high-altitude risks.

Simultaneously, the plant is experiencing one of its busiest periods due to overlapping planned outages of the third and fourth production units. Approximately 3,000 people, including ČEZ employees and specialized contractors, are involved in these maintenance and modernization tasks. Daily access to highly secured areas has doubled compared to last year, with roughly 600 people entering the site each day. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to ensure the long-term operation and safety of the facility for up to 80 years.
