Dulbecco and Gaslini hospitals launch neonatal surgery alliance

The Renato Dulbecco University Hospital in Catanzaro and the Giannina Gaslini Institute in Genoa have launched an operational medical alliance following a successful complex neonatal surgery. The procedure was performed on a two-kilogram newborn suffering from a severe congenital malformation affecting both the digestive and respiratory systems.

The surgical team was a joint effort led by Giuseppe Stranieri, Director of Pediatric Surgery at Dulbecco, and Professor Girolamo Mattioli, a specialist in neonatal and minimally invasive surgery from the Gaslini Institute. The collaboration also involved specialized anesthesiology support, including Dr. Andrea Moscatelli from Gaslini, to facilitate on-site training for the local Calabrian anesthesiology team.

This partnership, which has been in development for two years, aims to bring highly specialized pediatric care to the Calabria region through institutionalized cooperation between the two healthcare facilities.
