Dulles International Airport renovation receives $15.5 billion approval

The board of the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority has approved $15.5 billion to co-finance a massive renovation project for Dulles International Airport. This follows a broader $20 billion redevelopment plan announced by President Donald Trump.

The approved funding includes $3.75 billion specifically for the construction of new underground tunnels and the replacement of the airport’s existing ‘People Mover’ shuttle system, which has faced long-standing criticism. The project aims to modernize terminals and improve passenger transit across the airfield.

Jack Potter, CEO of the airport authority, stated that the agency looks forward to the construction and future growth at Dulles. According to Potter, the renovations are expected to be funded primarily through municipal bonds and will not require federal funds.
