Dumaguete City: Elderly couple killed in predawn shooting

An elderly couple, consisting of a 72-year-old foreign national and his 71-year-old Filipina wife, were killed in a predawn shooting at their residence in Barangay Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

Preliminary investigations suggest two unidentified male suspects entered the home around 4:00 a.m. and opened fire before fleeing. Both victims sustained gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, as they are still notifying next of kin.

Captain Stephen Jaynard Polinar, spokesperson for the Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office, confirmed that a person of interest has been identified, though no arrests have been made. The motive for the attack remains unknown. Police are also working to obtain a statement from the couple’s helper as part of the ongoing investigation.
