Dumbrăvița police investigate illegal logging and threats against officers

Police in Dumbrăvița, Brașov County, have opened a criminal investigation following an incident involving illegal logging and the theft of wood. On Thursday, September 18, authorities responded to reports of individuals cutting trees and transporting timber using three horse-drawn carts in a forested area.

During the intervention, the suspects reportedly abandoned the wood and attempted to flee. The situation escalated when the individuals allegedly threatened police officers with axes, a scythe, and a pitchfork. The suspects also ignored signals to stop, leading to a pursuit through the local area.

Local Vice Mayor Viorel Strîmtu stated that the incident crossed a line, noting the aggressive behavior toward law enforcement. Special forces were called to the scene to manage the situation. Authorities used drones to help identify the individuals involved. A criminal case has been opened for illegal tree cutting and wood theft, coordinated by the Brașov Prosecutor's Office.
